Thepuffingpatternsof116puffsoccurringbothinsalivaryglandsandstomachwerecomparedatastagefrom10to6hoursbeforepupariumformation:61.2%ofthepuffsdidnotshowsignificantdifferencesinactivitybetweenthetwotissues;6.0%ofthepuffsshowedactivepuffinginstomachcellsonly;and3.4%wererestrictedtosalivaryglandcells.Theremaining29.4%ofthepuffs,thoughactiveinbothtissuesatthistime,becameactiveearlierinthestomachandreachedthesameactivitylevelinthesalivaryglandsonlyatlaterstagesofdevelopment;70.6%ofthesepuffswerefoundtobespecificallyactiveduringthestagejustbeforepupariumformation.Thechangesinpuffingpatternduringnormaldevelopmentwerecomparedwiththechangesinducedinthetwotissuesbytemperatureshocks.Thedifferencesbetweenthetwotissuesobservedduringnormaldevelopmentcouldnotbefoundfollowingtemperatureshocks.Notonlydoallpuffsinthesalivaryglandandinthestomachattainthesamelevelofactivityfollowingtemperatureshock,butthestomachcellsshowthesechangesatthesametimeorevenlaterthanthesalivaryglandcells.
