ABSTRACT Probiotic bacteria are reported to reduce cholesterol by different mechanisms and hence can be utilized to reduce the blood cholesterol level of hypercholesterolemic patients. Probiotic bacteria must be population specific to be used in particular population. Bacteria isolated from faeces of healthy volunteers from Rourkela, Odisha, India were screened for their cholesterol reducing property in MRS broth for 72 hours.
