Changesincarbonflowandsink/sourceactivitiescanaffectfloral,architectural,andreproductivetraitsofplants.Inpotato,overexpression(OE)ofthepurpleacidphosphatase2ofArabidopsis(AtPAP2)resultedinearlierflowering,fastergrowthrate,increasedtubersandtuberstarchcontent,andhigherphotosynthesisrate.Therewasasignificantchangeinsucrose,glucoseandfructoselevelsinleaves,phloemandsinkbiomassoftheOElines,consistentwithanincreasedexpressionofsucrosetransporter1(StSUT1).Furthermore,theexpressionlevelsandenzymeactivityofsucrose‐phosphatesynthase(SPS)werealsosignificantlyincreasedintheOElines.Thesefindingsstronglysuggestthathighercarbonsupplyfromthesourceandimprovedsinkstrengthcanimprovepotatotuberyield...
