Duringcapacitationofmammalianspermintracellular[Ca2+]andcyclicnucleotidesincrease,suggestingthatCNGchannelsplayaroleinthephysiologyofsperm.Herewestudytheeffectofcapacitation,8Br‐cAMP(8‐bromoadenosine3′,5′‐cyclicmonophosphate)and8Br‐cGMP(8‐bromoguanosine3′,5′‐cyclicmonophosphate)onthemacroscopicioniccurrentsofmousesperm,findingtheexistenceofdifferentpopulationsofsperm,intermsoftherecordedcurrentanditsresponsetocyclicnucleotides.Ourresultsshowthatcapacitationandcyclicnucleotidesincreasetheioniccurrent,havingadifferentialsensitivitytocGMP(cyclicguanosinemonophosphate)andcAMP(cyclicadenosinemonophosphate).UsingaspecificinhibitorwedeterminethecontributionofCNGchannelstomacroscopiccurrentandcapacitation...
