This issue marks the second time that an issue ofEmerging Infectious Diseases has been devoted tozoonotic diseases; the first zoonoses issue was published 1year ago, in December 2004. The publication of this sec-ond theme issue attests to the frequency, visibility, andattention that these diseases are receiving. A year ago, wecommented on several prevailing factors worldwide thatfacilitate the emergence of zoonotic infectious diseases,among them a growing human population, increased inter-action between species, global climate changes, and rapidmovement of people and animals (1).
