As the scope of international travel expands, anincreasing number of travelers are coming into contact withhelminthic parasites rarely seen outside the tropics. As aresult, the occurrence of Gnathostoma spinigerum infectionleading to the clinical syndrome gnathostomiasis is increas-ing. In areas where Gnathostoma is not endemic, few cli-nicians are familiar with this disease.
