Murine typhus and "murine-typhus-like" disease arereemerging infectious diseases. In Canary Islands (Spain),a rather distinct clinical pattern characterized by higher inci-dence of complications, especially renal damage (includingacute failure and urinalysis abnormalities), is apparent andhighly suggestive. It could be related to different strains ofRickettsia typhi or other cross-reactive species
