Neonatal Moraxella osloensis Ophthalmia

To the Editor: Moraxella osloen-sis is an aerobic, gram-negative, lac-tose-nonfermenting coccobacillus. Itis a commensal of the human upperrespiratory tract and occasionally ofthe skin and urogenital tract (1).Unlike M. catarrhalis, M. osloensis israrely pathogenic in humans.However, several cases of seriousinfections caused by this organismhave been documented (2–6). Whilecases of nongonococcal, nonchlamy-dial, neonatal ophthalmia have beenreported in which the causative agentwas M. catarrhalis (7,8), to ourknowledge, this case is the first reportof neonatal ophthalmia due to M.osloensis.
