Evaluation of inner retinal layer thickness after half-dose photodynamic therapy in patients with cronic Central Serous Chorioretinopathy.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the inner retinal layers thickness in patients with chronic Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSC) recovered spontaneously or after half-dose PDT (HD-PDT) and normal subjects. Methods: A total of 92 eyes including 56 healthy eyes and 36 eyes with CSC were examined. In the CSC group 17 eyes were treated with HD-PDT, while 19 eyes recovered spontaneously. Patients underwent a comprehensive ocular examination. Inner retinal layer thickness (Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer, RNFL; Ganglion Cell Layer and Inner Plexiform Layer, GCL+; Ganglion Cell Layer, Inner Plexiform Layer and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer, GCL++) was assessed by the Spectral-domain OCT (Topcon 3D OCT 2000) by using 3D Macula V 512 x 128 acquisition program. Results: Overall, inner retinal layers thickness was statistically significant thicker in CSC eyes before spontaneous recovery or HD-PDT than control group (p 0.01). Only RNFL remained statistically significant thicker in CSC pre-PDT group compared to CSC post-PDT group (p 0.05). There were no statistical differences in inner retinal layers thickness between CSC post-PDT and control group. Conclusions: Based on our results HD-PDT did not seem to damage inner retinal layers thickness in the short term.
