A febrile traveler: mixed infection with waterborne organisms

A 28-year-old Indian man, resident in the UK for the last four years, was admitted to the hospital with high-grade fever of five-day duration associated with vomiting, headache, dry cough, generalized body aches, and malaise. He had returned from a three-week visit to India three weeks previously. During his stay in India, he lived in urban areas and visited friends and relatives. He initially had a brief episode of diarrhea with cramping abdominal pain, which settled spontaneously. He had not received any travel-related vaccinations.
