Real Time Distributed Control of Variable Speed Drive System in Cyber Physical Framework

Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) are systems with tight integration between computing, communication, and control technologies. Due to its ability to provide far reaching solutions, its applications apparently will obscure the 20th century Information Technology (IT) transformation. Distributed control is a powerful setup but faces the problem of random time delays introduced due to communication media imperfections. Introduction of time delay in system can affect the system performance and stability. The paper describes distributed control for industrial cyber physical system, which facilitates real time remote monitoring and control of electrical machine. We present Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) with adjustable speed drives and Luenberger observer for speed estimation suitable for applications demanding Cyber Physical framework. The system developed also addresses the problem of time delay. This paper also highlights the application domain and challenges faced by CPSs.
