Harmonic Cancellation of PV-supplied DC/AC Converter without Stabilizing Input Capacitors

Abstract: In this paper the harmonic cancellation performance of a power converter, supplied by Photovoltaic (PV) arrays, is investigated. The power converter consists of a dc-dc buck-boost converter connected in series with a full-bridge polarity swapping inverter. Due to specific way of converter’s operation, ripples are caused to PV’s output voltage. Consequently, there is harmonic distortion to converter’s output voltage, which gets worse when non-linear load is supplied. This phenomenon is mitigated through the proposed harmonic cancellation method. Thus the use of bulky stabilizing capacitors at converter dc input, or filters at converter ac output is avoided. The harmonic compensation method is explained and its suitability in such applications is verified by experimental results.
