Spatial models for context-aware indoor navigation systems: A survey

Thispapersurveysindoorspatialmodelsdevelopedforresearchfieldsrangingfrommobilerobotmapping,toindoorlocation-basedservices(LBS),andmostrecentlytocontext-awarenavigationservicesappliedtoindoorenvironments.Overthepastfewyears,severalstudieshaveevaluatedthepotentialofspatialmodelsforrobotnavigationandubiquitouscomputing.Inthispaperwetakeaslightlydifferentperspective,consideringnotonlytheunderlyingpropertiesofthosespatialmodels,butalsotowhichdegreethenotionofcontextcanbetakenintoaccountwhendeliveringservicesinindoorenvironments.Somepreliminaryrecommendationsforthedevelopmentofindoorspatialmodelsareintroducedfromacontext-awareperspective.Ataxonomyofmodelsisthenpresentedandassessedwiththeaimofprovidingaflexiblespatialdatamodelfornavigationpurposes,andbytakingintoaccountthecontextdimensions.
