Integrating the Use of Spreadsheet Software and VBA in Inventory Simulation

This article reviews the advantages anddisadvantages of computer programming and spreadsheetmodeling in logistics education and inventory control, anddescribes using Microsoft Excel and VBA in the classroom.One of these approaches, integrating the use of spreadsheetsoftware and VBA, has been used in recent years in alogistics systems management course with a large enrolmentat a major university. The article illustrates how, under theintegrated paradigm, various computer software packagesare integrated in the course to form a unique learningenvironment. At the last of the article, we give anillustration of the use of Microsoft Excel and VBA ininventory control.
