EEG Event-Related Desynchronization of patients with stroke during motor imagery of hand movement

BrainComputerInterfaces(BCI)canbeusedfortherapeuticpurposestoimprovevoluntarymotorcontrolthathasbeenaffectedpoststroke.Forthispurpose,desynchronizationofsensorimotorrhythmsoftheelectroencephalographicsignal(EEG)canbeused.Butitisnecessarytostudywhathappensintheaffectedmotorcortexofthispeople.Inthisarticle,weanalyseEEGrecordingsofhemiplegicstrokepatientstodetermineifitispossibletodetectdesynchronizationintheaffectedmotorcortexduringtheimaginationofmovementsoftheaffectedhand.Sixpatientswereincludedinthestudy;fourevidenceddesynchronizationintheaffectedhemisphere,oneofthemshowednoresultsandtheEEGrecordingsofthelastpatientpresentedhighnoiselevel.TheseresultssuggestthatwecouldusethedesynchronizationofsensorimotorrhythmsoftheEEGsignalasaBCIparadigminarehabilitationprogramme...
