WereportonanewexperimentalsetupforionenergylossmeasurementsindensemoderatelycoupledplasmawhichhasrecentlybeendevelopedandtestedatGSIDarmstadt.Apartiallyionized,moderatelycoupledcarbonplasma(ne≤0.8?1022cm-3,Te=15eV,z=2.5,Γ=0.5)isgeneratedbyvolumetricalheatingoftwothincarbonfoilswithsoftX-rays.Thisplasmaisthenprobedbyabunchedheavyionbeam.Forthatpurpose,aspecialdoublegoldhohlraumtargetofsub-millimetersizehasbeendevelopedwhichefficientlyconvertsintenselaserlightintothermalradiationandguaranteesagold-freeinteractionpathfortheionbeamtraversingthecarbonplasma.Thissetupallowstodopreciseenergylossmeasurementsinnon-idealplasmaatthelevelof10percentsolid-statedensity...
