2015willseethefirstobservationsofAdvancedLIGOandthestartofthegravitational-wave(GW)advanced-detectorera.Oneofthemostpromisingsourcesforground-basedGWdetectorsarebinaryneutron-star(BNS)coalescences.Inordertouseanydetectionsforastrophysics,wemustunderstandthecapabilitiesofourparameter-estimationanalysis.BysimulatingtheGWsfromanastrophysicallymotivatedpopulationofBNSs,weexaminetheaccuracyofparameterinferencesintheearlyadvanced-detectorera.Wefindthatskylocation,whichisimportantforelectromagneticfollow-up,canbedeterminedrapidly(~5s),butthatskyareasmaybehundredsofsquaredegrees.Thedegeneracybetweencomponentmassandspinmeansthereissignificantuncertaintyformeasurementsoftheindividualmassesandspins;however,thechirpmassiswellmeasured(typicallybetterthan0.1%)...
