THE EFFECT OF OMEGA?? ROOTS + GINSENG ALOE VERA, A NIGERIAN HERBAL MIXTURE, ON HAEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF NORMAL EXPERIMENTAL RATS

Omega?? Roots + Ginseng Aloe Vera herbal mixture is a commonly sold herbal formulation used for treatment of ailments. The aim of this study is to evaluate the toxic effect of Omega?? Roots herbal mixture on the haematological parameters of Wistar rats. Twenty rats were used for this study and were divided into four groups of 5 animals each; the control group was administered normal saline 10 ml/kg, and the treated groups received 250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, and 1000 mg/kg of the herbal mixture (Omega?? Roots) a period of fourteen days after which blood samples were collected for haematological analysis. The results of this study showed that oral administration of the Omega?? Roots extract had a non-significantly (P??0.05) change in the red blood cell count, white blood cell count, packed cell volume, and hemoglobin concentration of the Wistar rats. The findings suggest that Omega?? Roots + Ginseng Aloe Vera herbal mixture is non-haematotoxic following acute administration.
