Design and development of a highly compactzeroth order resonator (ZOR) based on compositeright/left handed transmission line (CRLH TL) isreported in this paper. The ZOR is based on single unitcellCRLH TL. The unit-cell of CRLH TL is realizedusing series modified inter digital capacitor (IDC) inshunt with the shorted inductive stubs to ground. TheZOR is excited by coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed.Because of the CPW-fed, the shorting of stub to theground does not require any via, which minimizes theoverall fabrication steps and time. The resonancefrequency and fractional bandwidth (FWB) of theproposed ZOR are 3.02 GHz and 8.4 % respectively. TheZOR exhibits the good passband S-parameterscharacteristics with return-loss, (|??????|????) of – 21.6 dBand insertion-loss, (|??????|????) of -0.6 dB at resonancefrequency. The -10 dB return-loss bandwidth of theresonator is found as 81 MHz. The ZOR is highlycompact in size, 14.1 × 6.6 mm2 that is, 0.21 ????× 0.098????, where ????, is the guided wavelength of the mediumwith relative permittivity 2.2. The circuit model tool ofAnsoft Designer is used to find out the performance ofthe equivalent lumped circuit model of the ZOR. Thelayout of the proposed ZOR is designed andperformances are evaluated using electromagneticsimulator, IE3D. The developed ZOR performances aremeasured using Agilent vector network analyzer (VNA).All measured results are found in good resemblancewith the simulated results.
