It is well-known that mankind is facing withthe pressure of climate change. There are two basicways to significantly reduce harmful emissions: toradically increase the share of renewable energyresources, and to use the electrical power moreefficiently. As electrical machines are using asignificant part of the total electric power generatedround the world, their efficiency improvements canhave a noteworthy impact. The paper presents the mainenergy efficiency related regulations, the mostapplicable efficiency increasing technical solutionsand possibilities to replace the most widely usedsquirrel cage induction machines with more efficientvariants.
