A few months ago, during a presidential debate, Rep. Ron Paul(R-14-Texas) was asked which one book he would recommendthat citizens read. It did not take much thought for him to namean essay written in 1845 by French economist andjournalist Frédéric Bastiat.Inearly 2012,onmy five-hour flight fromNewJersey to theAAPSBoard meeting in Las Vegas, Nev., I read and re-read the 55-pageclassic. It became clear to me that understanding Bastiat’s simpleprinciples would provide great insights for us to understand wherewe havegonewrongonhealth policy inAmerica.
