Study of Physical and Chemical Characteristics of Soils of Kapurthala District in Punjab, NW-India

摘要

The present study is conducted to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of soil of Kapurthala, theKapurthala district lies between the latitudes of 31007′30″ N and 75054′60″ E, it’s the smallest district of Punjab, and as perprovisional population figures of 2011 Census it covers a total of 1670sq. km area. Earlier soil of Kapurthala district studied by(Uppal H.L 1957, Sharma et al 1982, Sehgal et al 1992), after this lot of change in cropping pattern and soil characteristics hastaken place due to adoption of reclamation of salt affected soils, scrapping of sandy layers and introduction of intensive farmingpractices owing to green revolution. As such it is of highest importance that the physical and chemical characteristics of thesesoils were studied in the laboratory. It involved the study of sixteen soil profile in the field, location of all pedons recorded withthe help of global positioning system (GPS) ,horizon wise soil samples were collected and the physical and chemical analysis ofthe soils were studied in the laboratory.
