Micromorphological Investigations on Pollen Samples of Four Yellow Flowered Taxa of Crocus L. (Iridaceae) from Turkey

Inthisstudy,yellowfloweredtaxaofC.ancyrensis(Herbert)Maw,C.sieheanusBarrexBurtt,C.flavusWestonsubsp.flavusandC.flavussubsp.dissectusT.BaytopMathewwereexaminedinthepointofpollenmicromorphology.Accordingly,itwasaimedthatpollenmicromorphologicalcharacteristicsoftheplantsamplescouldbeusedasataxonomiccriterionconsiderablyornot.Inrespecttothatpurpose,exinestructureofpollensasregardssampleswasexaminedbyscanningelectronmicroscope(SEM).Ontheotherhand,differencesbetweentaxawereevaluated.Asaresultofthatinvestigation,pollenexineornamentationrelatedtostudiedfourtaxaofCrocusL.genuswereobserveddifferenttosomeextentandcouldbeusedasvicefortaxonomiccharacteristics.
