摘要

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a spectrum offat-associated liver conditions that can result in end-stageliver disease and the need for liver transplantation. Simple steatosis, or fatty liver, occurs early in NAFLD and mayprogress to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, which is characterized by the presence of hepatocellular damage suchas lobular inflammation and cellular ballooning. It mayevolve to fibrosis, and to cirrhosis with increased risk ofhepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a variable proportionof cases. NAFLD is considered to be the hepatic component of metabolic syndrome (MetS),1 which also includesobesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose regulation, and insulin resistance, and therefore represents astrong cardiovascular risk even at a very early age.
