摘要

AWS Weld defnition is discused proposing concepts such as continuity and fttness ±or porpouse to understand what is and what ±or is a weld, which is equivalent to express the weld logos. The existence o± two kinds to deal with the engineering problems is emphasized ±rom the art and ±rom the science o± the welding. The frst step to leave the art said Kelvin to it when it urged to us to measure and to express our ideas quantitatively; the second is to look ±or the perspective ±rom which the study object appears in its greater simplicity (Willard Gibbs). Actual welding problems demand suitability in conceptual connections among the input variables o± the process, microstructural evolution, shapes o± beads and service conditions, so that the solution process, be±ore to be an expeditious design o± WPSs, turns out to be a development o± procedures based on a holistyc paradigm o± welding like the proposed one. This paradigm serves to guide the projects o± the Welding Group and its validity is confrmed describing two cases o± investigation at random selected.
