We prove many new cases of the strong Artin conjecture for two-dimensional, totally odd, insoluble (icosahedral) representations $mathrm{Gal}(overline{F}/F)ightarrow GL_2(mathbf{C})$ of the absolute Galois group of a totally real field $F$.
