Abstract In the conservative dentistry physicians before choosing the filling material cannot wait for long-time clinical observations, although this type of evaluation of material in patient’s oral cavity is the most objective and reliable source of information concerning the durability of the restoration. On the other hand, in order to use particular material during patient’s treatment, we ought to be convinced of it’s high quality. The quality of restorations, and thus their durability is affected by many factors. It is essential to conduct laboratory tests, that asses different parameters of the material. Such tests are carried out quite often. In spite of the presence of some standards for their course, the researchers introduce innovations, making it difficult to compare these studies with each other.
