摘要

Patients typically seek health care because they experience symptoms. Health care providers must elicit, measure, and interpret patient symptoms as part of their clinical evaluation. Patient-generated reports, also known asPatient-Reported Outcomes (PROs), capture the patients’illness experience in a structured format and may helpbridge the gap between patients and providers. The UnitedStates Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines a PRO as‘‘any report of the status of a patient’s health conditionthat comes directly from the patient, without interpretation of the patient’s response by a clinician or anyoneelse.
