Environmental Impact Assessment of the Establishment of Silvopastoral Systems in San Pedro River Basin, Camagey, Cuba

摘要

In order to contribute to spread silvopastoral systems (SSP) in cattle areas of San Pedro River Basin in Camagey, Cuba, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was developed to evaluate and compare the impact that livestock cause on the environment at present and that wolud occur once the SSP be established and managed in the basin deforested areas. The EIA showed that with the establishment of SSP in these areas, the negative impact that the economical activities have produced can be compensated, moving the impact from -710 up to 1290, which means a very favourable result concerning to the environmental quality. It is hoped that successive improvement with the adoption of SSP tribute in first place to the nature, in second place to the people living in these areas, and finally to the sustainability of better productive results.
