Treatments targeting MDS genetics: a fool’s errand?

Themyelodysplastic syndromes arecollectivelythe mostcommon myeloidneoplasms.Clonal hematopoiesis present in these diseases results in bone marrow failure characteristically seen in patients. The heterogeneity of myelodysplastic syndrome pathobiology has historically posed a challenge to the development of newer therapies. Recent advances in molecular characterization of myelodysplastic syndromes are improving diagnostic accuracy, providing insights into pathogenesis,andrefiningtherapeuticoptionsforpatients.Withtheadventofthesedevelopments,appropriatelychosen therapeutics or even targeted agents may be able to improve patient outcomes in the future.
