Chromosomal Assignment of the Genes Encoding Glutamyl‐tRNA Reductase in Barley, Wheat, and Rye and Their Organization in the Barley Genome

The HemA genes encoding glutamyl-tRNA reductase, an important enzyme in chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis, are located on barley chromosome 5 (1H), homoeologous chromosomes 1A, IB, and ID of common wheat, and rye chromosome 1R. Southern blot analyses revealed a low copy multigene family for HemA genes in the barley genome.
