Dr Karen Woods (Author photos 1-13;Video 1, availableonline atwww.VideoGIE.org) was born in Joplin, Missouri,and grew up in Kansas City with her father, an accountant,and her mother, a dedicated homemaker. She is the olderof 2 children. At the age of 11, she wanted to be aveterinarian and joined the local Future Farmers ofAmerica chapter. In sixth grade, her plans changed aftershe studied the human body, which fascinated her, andshe decided to become a physician with the goal tobecome a heart or brain surgeon.
