Synthesis and spectral characterization of a decavanadate/chitosan complex

A decavanadate/chitosan complex was synthesized bycrosslinking chitosan with decavanadate anions at a pH of 3. Thematerials were characterized by Fourier transformed infraredspectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectronspectroscopy (XPS), absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and transmissionelectron microscopy (TEM). The spectroscopic results indicated thatthe decavanadate/chitosan complex was successfully obtained as resultof an ionic crosslinking of the chitosan with decavanadate anions.
