In the process of product design, the knowledge of product ecological design is growing with the increasing of environmental requirements of product. In the process of knowledge acquisition of product ecological design, massive redundant or insignificant design data will affect designers’ efficiency, and it is necessary to reduce these data. In this paper, taking the automobile reducer as an example, the ontology expression model is established for the ecological design knowledge needed in the design process. Starting from the rough set knowledge, the rough set theory is applied to reduce the attributes and remove the redundancy. Finally, the accurate data which meets the design requirements is obtained, and the design efficiency and precision are improved.
