摘要

The world continues to depend on fossil fuels, increasingconsumption despite increased awareness of renewableoptions and measures to curb its use. The risingdemand for energy has led many countries to rely onhydraulic fracturing for oil and gas. With the oil and gasextraction industries accounting for more than 1·7% ofthe US gross domestic product, such drilling activitiesare believed to improve national and local economiesthrough job creation. This economic growth has actedas a great incentive for private companies to enterhydraulic fracturing operations.
