Osteoporosis is a common skeletal disease characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD) and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to decreased skeletal strength and increased susceptibility to fracture (1). Osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures are known to reduce the quality of life of the elderly and have recently become a concern in developing countries as well as in developed countries (2).
