The Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Carbon Nanostructures (FNCN) Division focuses on chemically-related nanocarbon research that fall into three categories: Zero-dimensional materials (fullerenes), one-dimensional materials (nanotubes), and two-dimensional materials (graphene). After the discovery of Buckminsterfullerene (C60), nanocarbon research has been focused on the synthesis of C60 and larger fullerenes. In the early 1990s, carbon nanotubes emerged and have been widely used in different research areas. In recent years, the unique structure of graphene has been found to display unusual electrical and mechanical properties. The articles in this issue highlight a small sampling of current nanocarbon research.
