This editorial introduces five articles in the issue ECS Interface dealing with education in electrochemistry. The first article provides a general backdrop on the state of higher education, the financial challenges being faced by academic institutions and how these challenges have an impact on the design and implementation of educational programs. The second article is narrowed to chemistry. The third article further narrows the focus to the status of education in one important area of electrochemistry—corrosion. The fourth article reviews contemporary science education textbooks available to chemistry curriculum. The fifth article discusses teaching activities in the area of dielectric semiconductor materials, devices and processing.
