Painful symptoms in depression: under-recognised and under-treated?

Current diagnostic systems maintain an artificial division between a€? physicala€?and a€?psychologicala€?disorders. This is exemplified by the way in which pain symptoms are dealt with in the context of depressive illness. The consequences of this are discussed, and ways to enhance the clinical care of patients with depression and pain are suggested.
