The Interacting Boson Approximation model, IBA-1, has been used in studying the nuclearstructure of 154;156Dy. The excited positive and negative parity states, potentialenergy surfaces, V( ; ), electromagnetic transition probabilities, B(E1), B(E2), backbending, staggering effect, ΔI = 1, and electric monopole strength, X(E0=E2), werecalculated successfully. The calculated values are compared to the available experimentaldata and show reasonable agreement. The energy and electromagnetic transitionprobabilities ratios as well as the contour plot of the potential energy surfaces show thatthe 156Dy nucleus is an X(5) candidate.
