For the current issue of the Journal, we asked Drs Sarah Reid andMary Jean Duncan to comment on and put into context therecent Cochrane Review interventions for treating fingertipentrapment injuries in children.BackgroundFingertip entrapment injuries, which involve lacerations to thepulp and nail, and often a fracture of the underlying bone, commonlyoccur in children usually as the result of a crushing injury.Treatment is either conservative (wound cleaning and fingertipdressing) or surgical (repair of lacerations, reduction and stabilizationof fractures); however, no consensus currently exists regardingthe most appropriate treatment modality.
