Repair and Performance of a Full-Scale Pretensioned Concrete Girder

>This paper presents the second part of an investigation on the behavior of full-scale prestressed concrete girders that were in service for 20 years. A precast, pretensioned girder with a span of 70 ft (21.3 m) was damaged, repaired, and tested under one-half million cycles of fatigue loads. Subsequent to fatigue loading, the girder was tested to failure and its behavior was compared with that of two other identical girders that had been tested to failure under monotonic loading. In the testing, two strands in the girder were purposely severed and repaired using an internal strand repair coupler. The results indicated that the repaired strands were able to sustain one-half million cycles of fatigue loads, including periodic overloads, without damage. >?
