TEMPERATURE STRESSES IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE WALLS OF CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES

style="text-align: left;">The walls of prestressed concrete tanks and containment structures are subject frequently to severe temperature differentials between the outside and inside surfaces. Thus, it becomes important that the temperature-induced moments and stresses in such structures be accurately determined so that the compensating prestressing force can be optimally evaluated. This paper presents an analytic method to  calculate these temperature stresses in a fully restrained prestressed concrete section. The method used is an iterative process whereby the section is considered cracked and the flexural rigidity of the  concrete is gradually reduced. From the computer output several design charts were prepared. To illustrate the design method and use of the charts, two numerical examples are included.  >References style="text-align: left;">1.
