AdetailedsearchforemissionandabsorptionlinesandanassessmentoftheirupperlimitsareperformedforSuzakudata.Themethodutilizesamatched-filteringapproachtomaximizethesignal-to-noiseratioforagivenenergyresolution,whichcouldbeapplicabletomanytypesoflinesearch.Wefirstappliedittowell-knownactivegalacticnucleispectrathathavebeenreportedtohaveultra-fastoutflows,andfindthatourresultsareconsistentwithpreviousfindingsatthea??3??level.Weproceededtosearchforemissionandabsorptionfeaturesintwobrightmagnetars4Ua€‰0142+61and1RXSa€‰J1708a?’4009,applyingthefilteringmethodtoSuzakudata.Wefoundthatneithersourceshowedanysignificantindicationoflinefeatures,evenusinglong-termSuzakuobservationsordividingtheirspectraintospinphases.Theupperlimitsontheequivalentwidthofemission/absorptionlinesareconstrainedtobeafeweVata??1a€‰keVandafewhundredsofeVata??10a€‰keV.ThisstrengthenspreviousreportsthatpersistentlybrightmagnetarsdonotshowprotoncyclotronabsorptionfeaturesinsoftX-raysand,eveniftheyexist,theywouldbebroadenedormuchweakerthanbelowthedetectionlimitofX-rayCCD.
