SinglecrystallineceriaandrareearthdopedceriananoparticleshavebeensuccessfullysynthesizedbysonochemicalmethodusingwatersolventfromaqueoussolutioncontainingCe(NO3)3.6H2O,Gd(NO3)3#903;6H2O,Sm(NO3)3#903;6H2O,NaOHandnbsp;examethylenetetramine(HMTA)asasurfactant.PreparedCeO2,Gd:CeO2andSm:CeO2nanoparticlesweredriedinairovenat100deg;Cfor24h.ThesynthesizedsampleshavebeensubjectedtovariouscharacterizationstudiessuchasX-raypowderdiffraction(XRD)forstructuralconfirmationoffluoritecubic.Themorphologyofthepreparedmaterialswasstudiedbyfieldemissionscanningelectronmicroscopy(FE-SEM)Thermo-gravimetricanalysis(TG/DTA)revealsthatceriaanddopedceriaarethermalstableupto400ordm;C.UV-visabsorptionofGd:CeO2showsredshift,duetotheelectron-phononinteraction.Fluorescencestudiesshowtheemissionpeaksforceriaat425nmandgadoliniumandsamariumdopedceriaat466nm.
