AnewmethodforcalculatingthegainofgammairradiatedYttria-aluminasilicateerbiumdopedfiberamplifier(GIEDFA)ispurposedusingablackboxmodel(BBM)andcomparedwiththeoreticalmodelatwavelength1540nm.Twoimportantparameterswhichalpha;andPmaxareintroducedin(BBM)andarealsoalmostindependentofwavelength1540nmatthefixedradiationdose.ApplyingtheBBM,wecanestimatethegaininthewavelengthof1540nmeasily,onlybytheparametersofalpha;,Pmaxandthesmall-signalgainincorrespondingwavelengths.TheBBMgivesaverygoodagreementresultswiththetheoreticalmodel,whichaffordsanewwaytocharacterizethegaindeteriorationcharacteristicsofEDFAinradiationenvironment.
