Opticalmicrofibershavebeenfabricatedusingafusionsplicerbyvaryingafewcontrolparameters,namelythearcpower,fusiontimeandpullingdistance.Thegeometricalcharacteristicsoftheopticalmicrofiberssuchaslengthofthetransitionregionandwaist,taperanglesandcladdingdiametersarebelievedtoplayaroleindeterminingtheopticaltransmissionlosses.Thisstudyrevealedtheadvantageoftheone-sidedpullingtechniquetoproducesmalldiameterofcladdingandcoreoftheopticalmicrofibernamely,1.43micro;mand0.67micro;mrespectivelywiththewaistlengthof7.35micro;m.Strongoscillationsoflightpropagationwereobservedwhenthecladdingdiameterwaslessthan2mu;m.Theoptimumratioofthetaperangleandthetransitionlengthare0.75and1.27,respectivelywithatransmissionlosspercentageof16.03%.
