Speckle-Interferometry(SI)isapowerfultoolforfast,robustandnon-contactmeasurementsofdisplacement,vibration,roughnessorshape.OneofthekeycomponentsinSIisthelightsource.Typicallightsourcesaregaslasers,whichmeetallrequirementslikehighintensity,homogeneousbeamprofile,andhighdegreeofcoherence.Duetolargesize,temperaturecontrolandhighcoststhesetypesoflasercanoftennotbeusedasanilluminationsourceinSI-systems.Nexttostandardedge-emittingdiodelasers,verticalcavitysurfaceemittinglasers(VCSEL)areapromisingalternativelightsourceinSI.nbsp;Inthiswork,standardedge-emittinglasersarecomparedtoVCSELsregardingtheapplicabilityininterferometricapplications.
