Ebola Virus Disease: epidemiology, management, prevention and control

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is part of the group of illnessesknown as viral haemorrhagic fevers, and was previouslyknown as Ebola haemorrhagic fever. Infection with EVDis acute, severe and often fatal in humans. Five species ofthe Ebolaviruses have been identified: Zaire, Bundibugyo,Sudan, Reston and Tai Forest [1]. The Zaire, Bundibugyoand Sudan ebolaviruses were responsible for the largestoutbreaks in Africa [2]. This paper aims to provide anoutline of what is known about EVD.
