Botswana National Veterinary Laboratory (BNVL) is mandated to carry out diagnostic testing, research and epidemiological surveillance of animal diseases, as well as to monitor abattoir hygiene and conduct quality control testing of meat, milk and by-products to facilitate both internal and external trade. For the diagnosis and surveillance of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), BNVL has the capability to perform the complement fixation test (CFT), competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), the isolation of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp.mycoides small colony variant and identification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and histopathological testing.
